Which Of The Following Tests Can Be Used To Detect Register Disbursement Schemes?
COVID-19 Tests and Travel Bundles
The pre-departure test you require will depend on the country you are travelling to and whether you are fully vaccinated. Some countries will accept self-tests (full range below), and some will only accept tests performed by a medical clinician. Consult the Virgin Atlantic travel advice page for more information.
Return travellers can pack a Pre-Return Lateral Flow test in their suitcase to self-test from abroad before flying to the UK.
Fully vaccinated UK arrivals must take a Day 0-2 PCR test the day they arrive in the UK (Day 0) up until Day 2. Unvaccinated travellers must take Day 2 & 8 PCR tests, with the option of taking an additional PCR test on Day 5 as part of the Test to Release scheme.

What are the new requirements for arriving in England from 4th October?
Travellers arriving from non-red list countries can use the Project Screen arrival tests. Which arrival test depends on whether travellers have been fully vaccinated in one of the UK Government's eligible vaccination countries or not.
From 4am Monday 4 October, you will qualify as fully vaccinated if you are vaccinated either:
- under an approved vaccination programme in the UK, Europe, USA or UK vaccine programme overseas
- with a full course of the Oxford/AstraZeneca, Pfizer BioNTech, Moderna or Janssen vaccines from a relevant public health body in Australia, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bahrain, Brunei, Canada, Dominica, Israel, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, New Zealand, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan or the United Arab Emirates (UAE)
Formulations of the 4 listed vaccines, such as AstraZeneca Covishield, AstraZeneca Vaxzevria and Moderna Takeda, qualify as approved vaccines.
You must have had a complete course of an approved vaccine at least 14 days before you arrive in England.
Where 2 doses of a vaccine are required for a full course, you will be able to:
- mix 2 different types of vaccine, for example Oxford/AstraZeneca and Moderna
- have the 2 vaccinations under 2 different approved programmes, for example Australia and Japan, UK and USA, EU and Canada
You must be able to prove that you have been fully vaccinated (plus 14 days) with a document (digital or paper-based) from a national or state-level public health body that includes, as a minimum:
forename and surname(s)
date of birth
vaccine brand and manufacturer
date of vaccination for every dose
country or territory of vaccination and/or certificate issuer
If your document from a public health body does not include all of these, you must follow the non-vaccinated rules. If not, you may be denied boarding.
If you are fully vaccinated in the USA, you will need to show a CDC card showing you've had a full course of an FDA-approved vaccine in the USA. You'll also need to prove that you are a resident of the USA.
If you are fully vaccinated in Europe, you will need to show an EU Digital COVID Certificate (EU DCC), showing you've had a full course of an EMA or Swissmedic-approved vaccine.
If you are fully vaccinated, but do not qualify under these fully vaccinated rules, you must follow the non-vaccinated rules.
Travel from the rest of the world if you are not fully vaccinated:
From 4am Monday 4 October, you must follow these rules if you:
- do not qualify under the fully vaccinated rules
- are partially vaccinated
- are not vaccinated
Before you travel to England you must:
- take a pre-departure COVID-19 test – to be taken in the 3 days before you travel to England
- book and pay for day 2 and day 8 COVID-19 tests – to be taken after arrival in England
- complete your passenger locator form – any time in the 48 hours before you arrive in England
After you arrive in England you must:
- quarantine at home or in the place you are staying for 10 days
- take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 and on or after day 8
You may be able to end quarantine early if you pay for a private COVID-19 test through the Test to Release scheme.

How accurate are the COVID-19 tests by Project Screen?
Prenetics uses test kits which are approved for use for COVID-19 testing by the United Kingdom healthcare regulatory authorities (Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency - 'MHRA') and our laboratories are also registered by the Care Quality Commission and comply with the relevant international testing standard [1]. This means all products, personnel and processes used in our COVID-19 testing process are subject to a rigorous quality management regime and external validation. Despite this, all diagnostic testing generates a very small percentage of false results so we can never guarantee the accuracy of every result - the Lancet reported that "RT-PCR tests to detect severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) RNA are the operational gold standard for detecting COVID-19 disease in clinical practice. RT-PCR assays in the UK have analytical sensitivity and specificity of greater than 95%, but no single gold standard assay exists" [2].

2. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanres/article/PIIS2213-2600%2820%2930453-7/fulltext
All samples are sent to our UK-based laboratory for analysis. Our laboratory partners are UKAS accredited or UKAS applicants and DHSC validated, and use RT-PCR assays that have the highest levels of accuracy based on the QCED UK EQAP program.

+
Should I pay for a test or get a free NHS test?
The UK Government's website states that travellers cannot use the National Health Service (NHS) PCR tests for pre-departure or arrival testing. The NHS PCR tests are strictly for people who:
- Are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms
- Have been in contact with someone who's tested positive
- Have been asked to test by a local council or someone from NHS Test and Trace
- Have been asked to test by a GP or another health professional
- Are taking part in a government pilot project

- Are in the National Tactical Response Group
Travellers may be fined if they are found to be using a NHS PCR test and must book a PCR COVID-19 test through a private provider.

What is the difference between lateral flow antigen and PCR COVID-19 tests?
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests are often seen as the ""gold standard"" COVID-19 test for identifying clinical cases of coronavirus infection because they require laboratory analysis. The PCR is a diagnostic test that detects the virus's RNA (genetic material) in a sample taken from a nose and throat swab. Once a sample is at the laboratory, enzymes known as 'reverse transcriptase' and 'DNA polymerase', are added to the swab to make copies of any viral RNA that is present. Copies of the RNA are picked up by 'primers' which show the genetic material has been found. As PCR tests require laboratory analysis, once a sample has been received by the laboratory, results typically take around 24 hours to be released to a customer.
Although they are also swab tests, lateral flow antigen test are quite different. Rather than detecting viral genetic material, lateral flow antigen tests detect proteins specific to coronavirus in the sample to detect if people have the virus. Lateral flow antigen tests perform well with high viral loads, so they are good at determining if someone is infectious with coronavirus. As lateral flow antigen tests do not require laboratory analysis, they return results faster - usually within 20 minutes - and work similarly to pregnancy tests.
+
What happens if I test positive while abroad before flying back to England?
Before flying to England, ensure you are following the UK Government's travel testing guidelines. Get advice about travelling abroad, including the latest information on coronavirus, safety and security, entry requirements and travel warnings.
If you test positive before your return flight to England, you must not travel. You must follow your destination's local rules and guidance for positive coronavirus cases. You should conduct a second Covid-19 test, specifically a PCR test to confirm your coronavirus status, and expect to quarantine for a certain period of time or until you test negative. If the result is inconclusive, you must take another PCR test.
British nationals who need consular assistance should contact the nearest consulate, embassy or high commission.
+
What happens if my lateral flow antigen test result is inconclusive?
If your remote lateral flow antigen test result is inconclusive before your return flight to England, you will need to conduct a second COVID-19 test, specifically a PCR test to confirm your coronavirus status, and expect to quarantine for a certain period of time or until you test negative.
